Here is a very good condition,
1961 Velazquez El Clasico
classical guitar. It was made in the workshop setup by Manuel Velazquez in New York.
Manuel Velazquez is one of the greatest luthiers of all time. The El Clasico series of guitars were designed and developed by Manuel and built under his supervision. This instrument is one of the earlier examples of the El Clasico and the soundboard was likely made by Manuel Velazquez, as he left nothing to chance on the first guitars in terms of sound quality.
The overall condition of the guitar is excellent. The original finish of entire guitar was refurbished using nitrocellulose lacquer to restore elasticity, protection of the woods and minimize blemishes. At some point many years ago, the soundboard had spruce splints put in with very high skill. They are stable and have not reduced the resonance or tonal quality of the instrument. There is a slight unevenness between the outer binding and the sides near the bottom of the guitar, but it is structurally sound and very slight. The back and sides of the guitar have no cracks.
This hand-crafted guitar was built using solid straight grain Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides, a Cedar neck and a solid Spruce top. The binding is Maple and head stock cap is Brazilian Rosewood.
Scale length on this guitar is 650 millimeters. This scale allows for easy reach and plenty of power. The nut width measures 51 millimeters.
The ebony fretboard and frets are in good condition. They have just been polished. Action on the 12th fret low E string is 3.2 millimeters and the 12th fret high E string measures 3.0 millimeters.
This guitar has Gold Fish-Scale Landstorfer tuning keys in excellent condition. The guitar will be carefully packed and shipped in a good condition hard shell case.
