    Description

    After decades of English pipes being the gold standard in pipe smoking, in the 1960's and into the 1970's the Danish boom took hold and fancy freehands became all the rage. The English makes were quick to jump on the opportunity with even Dunhill offering Danish made pipes. Preben Holm, the master of the freehand was commissioned by Ben Wade and others to supply these classics under their own name with Ben Wade offering some of the finest made under the Danish Hand Model line or the cream of the crop, the Nobel Prize. This Danish Hand Model 100 surprisingly remains unsmoked after nearly 50 years and shows characteristics of Pickaxe and Acorn. The bowl sits comfortably in hand with thick walls and a partially smooth but mostly craggy plateau rim leading to a cavernous chamber. The transitions offers a "step" which allows the pipe to rest on its own making for a fine sitter and then becomes thick and sturdy flaring out in an oval shape to hold the original fancy vulcanite stem with Ben Wade logo still intact. Finish is a warm walnut that highlights the stunning flame and straight grain and if you look close it has incredible depth and layers giving it that "3D" look that is simply spectacular. Comes complete with original box and sock, a gem that awaits its first smoke!
