BEN WADE/PREBEN HOLM UNSMOKED DANISH HAND MODEL 600 STRAIGHT GRAIN ESTATE PIPE

Description

This is a special offering from Preben Holm for Ben Wade and remains unsmoked. Ben Wade commissioned Preben Holm in the 1970's to make these pipes for them as the Danish Boom took hold and plateau Freehands were all the rage. The Danish Hand Model series was graded from 100-800 in increments of 100 with this being a rather high grade 600. Hard to find anything over a 400, and to find an unsmoked high grade is a treasure with this one coming complete with original box. It is classic Preben in every facet, a fluted plateau freehand sitter. The Dublin shaped bowl sits comfortably in hand with 5 flutes and carries ultra thick walls surrounding the generous chamber. At the front bottom of the bowl there is a flat spot which actually allows the pipe to balance (not pictured) in a more vertical position. The shank is muscular yet transitions effortlessly and also carries a somewhat flat spot where the nomenclature is allowing the pipe to sit in a "standard" position (pictured). The shank extends to flare out showing more plateau and holds the original vulcanite fancy faceted stem with Ben Wade crown logo mostly intact and a tapered bit showing a touch of downward bend. The finish is gorgeous rich golden contrast and it is no surprise this pipe earned the high mark of 600 as the grain is exceptional showing 360 degree fine angel hair straight grain with a touch of flame displaying excellent depth. This pipe is for the discerning collector and awaits it's first smoke after almost 50 years!
