EDWARD'S UNSMOKED ALGERIAN BRIAR STRAIGHT GRAIN PLATEAU FREEHAND ESTATE PIPE

Description

Algerian is hands down the finest briar that was ever sourced for pipes which is why Alfred Dunhill started using it in 1918 for not only his Bruyere's but also his Shells as it produced the most exceptional blasts. When Algeria became independent in the early 1960's, Algerian Briar was no longer able to be obtained and it became quite scarce from then on. Edward's had a hold on more Algerian Briar than any other make including Dunhill and those who know their pipes know that these early Edwards are some of the best smokers ever made, "sleepers" of sorts. This one remains unsmoked and was made probably in the late 1960's early 1970's when Edward's was still sitting on a stockpile. It shows heavy Danish influence, a classic freehand that from afar would bring thoughts of Preben Holm. It sports a beautifully formed bowl that cradles in hand perfectly with a flared out almost oval shaped rim showing craggy plateau opening to a generous chamber. As the bowl rounds out on the heel the shank effortlessly swoops up in a half bend and is quite thick before being extended by a lovely dark green metallic swirled lucite mount that holds the matching fishtail stem. Finish is a stunning golden contrast which highlights the exceptional 360 degree fine angel hair straight grain that shows tons of depth, wow! Awaiting its first smoke, if you haven't ever smoked an Edward's Algerian, it doesn't get much better than this one.
