This is a magical image of Jerusalem in the form of a color magic lantern slide.  It was made for the Knights of Malta (see stamp on edge of wooden frame)
The Ancient and Illustrious Order of the Knights of Malta is a fraternal organization introduced here in 1844.  Headquartered in Philadelphia, there purpose was to "unite men under the most binding forms. to comfort on another in practice of Christian religion.."
They conferred twelve degrees inspired to by the knights who fought in the Crusades.  This image of Jerusalem is one from a series of illustrative images.
