Description
QM-1.0-3704 Seismometer Electronics for School, Office & Home. The Infiltec Model QM-1.0-3704 Seismometer Electronics is designed as a replacement for the standard AS1 Seismometer electronics, or for use with your Lehman horizontal seismic sensor, or for your vertical AS1 type sensor, or for a low frequency geophone type sensor. It is designed for school, office, field, and home use with the AmaSeis or jAmaSeis school seismic software. It provides electronics for worldwide earthquake detection in a compact, portable, and rugged package. The QM-1.0-3704
DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY SEISMIC SENSOR
. The QM-1.0-3704 does not require any external power supply or assembly or enclosure or adjustment.
. The QM-1.0-3704 works with the standard
AmaSeis
Windows based software, and its sensitivity is similar to the standard educational
AS1
seismometer electronics. It also works with the new
jAmaseis
software for Windows, Linux and Mac OS. NOTE: If you need a compact seismometer that includes a sensor, see our
Model QM-4.5LV Seismometer
.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF THE QM-1.0-3704 :
Drop-in replacement for the educational AS1 seismometer electronics.
Works with the educational standard AmaSeis Windows seismic software, and the new jAmaSeis Windows/iOS/Linux seismic software.
Complete system includes seismometer electronics with 15 foot serial cable, USB-to-Serial adapter cable with driver CD, pickup coil on 6 foot shielded cable, horseshoe alnico magnet to mount on your sensor arm, and instructions for downloading the latest AmaSeis seismic software from the Internet. Nothing else is required, other than your AS1 vertical sensor, or Lehman seismic sensor. Geophones can be connected directly.
Easy electronics and software setup! Take the electronics out of the shipping box, plug it into your PC, start AmaSeis or jAmaSeis softare and the data recording starts. (This assumes that
AmaSeis
software is installed and running)
You can create your own online web page that displays your QM-1.0-3704 realtime display.
With the AS1 sensor, or similar, the QM-1.0-3704 electronics detects USA quakes with magnitude 6 or larger (approximate).
Detects worldwide quakes with magnitude 7 or larger (approximate with AS1 sensor).
Detects local quakes magnitude 3.5 within 60 miles or 100 km (approximate with AS1 sensor).
No external power supply ever required.
No adjustment of internal electronics (amplifier, filter, digitizer, power supply) ever required.
Practically indestructible to damage caused by shock, vibration, shipping & handling.
One enclosure contains all the electronics: amplifier, filter, digitizer, power supply.
Metal enclosure shields electronics against noise from nearby electromagnetic interference.
High digital resolution (16 bits) keeps large and small quakes on scale
High-quality low-pass filter (Bessel type) preserves differences between seismic time delays.
Steep low-pass filter cutoff (8 pole) allows slow sampling output (9 sps) without aliasing.
Zero-drift amplifier reduces low frequency (1/f) noise in the system (0.01 to 1.0 Hz) bandwidth.
Microprocessor firmware adjusts for component drift due to temperature changes, aging, etc.
Very low power (under 0.05 Watts) operation supplied from RS232 lines. Designed to operate continuously 24/7.
Connects to PC DB9 serial port, or a USB port through a USB-Serial DB9 adapter (included).
Works on Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 PC via AmaSeis logging data 24/7 in background.
You can use your PC for other jobs while AmaSeis is running. Just keep the AmaSeis display full screen, even if in background.
Installation: place away from rapidly changing temperatures.
NEW: Works with
jAmaseis
Java based software for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.
NEW: You can download the latest USB-Serial adapter
Prolific drivers
for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE QM-1.0-3704
:
Performance:
When combined with an AS1 sensor, the earthquake sensitivity similar to the standard educational
AS1
seismometer electronics - generally allows detection of magnitude 6 or greater within a continent (such as North America), and generally allows for the detection of magnitude 7 or greater worldwide.
Mode of Operation:
Single-axis, velocity sensing by digitizing the amplified and filtered voltage from a stationary pickup coil and a magnet mounted on user supplied sensor. Also works with geophone outputs.
Output:
Serial output formatted for
AmaSeis
seismic software, RS232 9600 baud N81 ASCII.
Frequency Pass-Band:
0.01 Hz to 1.0 Hz digitized data stored on hard drive by AmaSeis at about 1 megabyte per 24 hours.
Temperature Range
40 to 90 F (4 to 32 C) with no adjustments required, but the operating temperature must be stable. Internal firmware automatically adjusts for slow component drifts.
Housing:
Diecast aluminum box encloses all electronics, 6.024x3.268x1.988 inches (153x83x50.5 mm). Shipping weight approximately 2.2 lb (1 kg).
Computer Connection:
15 ft (4M) serial cable (up to 100 ft (30M) extension optional) connects to PC DB9 connector or USB-Serial DB9 adapter.
Power Supply:
No external power supply required, all power supplied by USB or PC serial port through the serial cable connected to the PC.
Digital Processing:
16 bits voltage resolution from internal digitizer, 9 sample/second ASCII data record output, firmware adjusts for component drifts.
Lowpass Filter:
Analog 8 Pole Bessel filter @ 1 Hz corner frequency for anti-aliasing.
Data Logging Software:
PC seismic data logging and analysis software AmaSeis available online for free download.
Time Sync Software
: Free programs like
About Time
can be used to make the AmaSeis time base accurate within milliseconds.
Computer Requirements:
Most PCs running Windows (98/XP/V/7/8/8.1) can run AmaSeis in backgound 24/7 while doing other tasks. Hard drive must be capable storing 1 megabyte/day.
HOW TO USE AMASEIS SOFTWARE ON YOUR PC WITH THE QM-1.0-3704 SEISMOMETER ELECTRONICS:
Note that most of the extensive online Amaseis software instructional material references the AS1 seismometer that is no longer available.
