J. ALAN UNSMOKED 2011 POY P&T MAGAZINE 27/30 LUMBERMAN ESTATE PIPE COMPLETE

I've had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Gracik of J. Alan pipes at many pipe shows but also got to watch him make a pipe one time as he lives about 20 minutes away from me here in San Diego! His story is incredible as he was able to study abroad in Denmark while also learning the art alongside the likes of Tonni Nielsen, Todd Johnson and Jody Davis to hone his skills. That was many years ago and today J. Alan pipes are some of the most sought after pipes in the world known for their exceptional smoking characteristics/engineering, fine aged briar, classic shapes as well as stunning freehands in every finish you can imagine. In 2011 Jeff was chosen to make Pipes & Tobacco Magazine's Pipe of the Year and decided to go with the affable Lumberman. Only 30 were made with this one numbered 27 with some smooth and some blast and this stunning pipe remains unsmoked. It shows Jeff's prolific ability to put his own character on a classic shape while also showing a Danish profile. The bowl is a lovely Brandy shape carrying extra thick walls with a rounded rim leading to a healthy sized chamber. At only 40g it is quite lightweight and well balanced for its size. The bowl gets bulbous at the base before transitioning to a classic long wide sturdy oval shank that is adorned with a brilliant Sterling Silver band adding nice contrast. Stem is hand-cut saddle ebonite and Jeff's stem work is second to none providing function and comfort. The finish looks black from afar but when held to the light is the deepest and richest burgundy you can find while the remarkable fine blast displays amazing starburst grain on the left side while the right side is loaded with birdseye craters with fine cross grain to the front and rear, wow! Comes complete with original box, thick leather glove and COA, an exceptional unsmoked limited edition pipe from Jeff Gracik of J. Alan pipes that certainly will not disappoint!
