Description
Kai Nielsen, son of the great Viggo and brother of Jorgen is undoubtedly one of Denmark's finest pipe carvers and even mentored the prolific Kurt Balleby. His style is all his own creating unique shapes yet quintessentially Danish in every facet. This impressive piece shows off his profound ability to turn art into function, an asymmetrical take on the Disc shape which many have carved, but few have mastered. It remains unsmoked and is fantastic to look at and even shows some slight blowfish characteristics to my eye. It is crisp and sharp in design yet still shows a softness to it and is almost perfectly round. The chamber offers healthy capacity for its size and the engineering is precision passing a cleaner with ease. The transition carries on the geometrical profile to a squared shank with "steps" while flat enough making for a nice setter and holds a remarkable and stunning fancy octagonal facet Cumberland stem with lovely "grain", fishtail bit and silver inlaid dot logo near the tenon. Finish is an amazing light natural Danish orange while the briar displays tons of birdseye on both sides of the disc with fine cross grain around the entire perimeter, wow! Comes complete with leather signed glove, this Kai Jewel is begging to be smoked for the first time and simply will not disappoint!Nomenclature: KAI NIELSEN, HAND MADE JEWEL OF DENMARK, D
