Kestone View Magic Lantern Slide: Eskimo Girls,Cape York, Greenland c. 1910

Description

This very evocative magic lantern slide depicts three Inuit girls with other tribal members standing behind. They are dressed in seal skin garments and the photographer captured a very spontaneous moment judging from the expressions on the girls' faces.  This photograph was taken at Cape York, Greenland.  I think it is probably from about 1910.  There is certainly no suggestion of Western influence on the scene.  There is some damage in the central section of the slide but it does not effect the faces or the great ambience of this photo.  The slide is 4" wide and 3.25" tall.
