    Description

    Medico Tobacco Pipe-1950s NOS, Unsmoked
This Medico pipe is in new condition. It even comes with the original filter and price sticker. I am a pipe smoker and it is part of my personal collection. I just couldn't bring myself to smoke it, so I thought a Medico collector might enjoy it. Look closely at the photos and you will see that it is in nearly perfect condition. The pipe stand is not included.
This slender Rhodesian pipe is 6 inches long. The chamber is 0.75 inches wide. The stummel is dark walnut in color. The stem is pale yellow, which is rarely seen. I've ben smoking and collecting pipes for 25 years and I don't think I've ever seen another. According to Anthony Cook of Reborn Pipes, the F stamp on the stem was discontinued around 1955, so this pipe dates to sometime before then.
The Medico brand was established in 1933 by S.M. Frank
& Co. as a response to growing concerns about tar and
    nicotine found in tobacco products.
In order to capture the tars and nicotine and cool the smoke S.M. Frank & Co. introduced their famous Medico pipe filter. This is an absorbent paper filter that is still readily available. In 1966 the company developed an inexpensive synthetic material they call Brylon. It is still in use today, but this pipe dates to well before the introduction of Brylon. Also, the grain of the briar is clearly visible.
