  • Condition: THIS IS AN ODDBALL SET OF SEVEN PAGES MEASURING 10" X 16.5" ON AN ONION SKIN TYPE PAPER GROMMETED TOGETHER AT THE TOP. THESE ARE "SPECIMEN ADVERTISEMENTS APPEARING IN NEW YORK JOURNAL, SUN, WORLD AND NEWS." THIS IS CIRCA LATE 1920'S. WHILE I CAN FIND IMAGES OF A COUPLE OF THESE ONLINE, MOST ARE NOT SHOWING UP IN ANY SEARCHES.

    Description

    There are eleven ads total on seven sheets of paper. The grommets have surface rust. These sheets have sat as shown in (PHOTO 11) FOR NEAR 90 YEARS and that is how they will be sent.
    Since the last sheet of paper was exposed all of this time, the rear of this sheet has some soiling and page edge curling/creases. The edges of all of the pages have occasional roughness because this paper is nearly tissue paper. The paper is cut so thin that the last sheet (PHOTO 7) actually has a small area of no paper (PHOTO 10) under the letter "W". I don't think it was ever there. This is just razor thin paper. and all eight sheets weigh less than an ounce with the grommets.
    The only real issue is at the points where the double folds are and there are small holes where those double folds are on at least a few of the sheets of paper (PHOTO 8 & 9). I really don't want to open this up again and make it worse.
    Each of the seven sheets has the
    "SPECIMEN ADVERTISEMENTS APPEARING IN NEW YORK JOURNAL, SUN, WORLD AND NEWS" statement at the top.
    I don't know how long they made toothpaste at Wrigley but the ads I found were all from 1929 and this item reflects that these ads are "appearing" in papers so I would put the date at this time.
    My guess is that these were created by an advertising agency. I don't know if it was meant for "in-house" or for Wrigley employees, but it remains a nice 90 year old collection of advertising for the Wrigley toothpaste brand.
