SIGNED MARTINEZ SAN JUAN DE ORIENTE NICARAGUA ART POTTERY HUMMINGBIRD RELIEF

Description

Offered for purchase is a lovely vintage piece of Latin American pottery from Nicaragua. It is a handmade, carved relief San Juan Oriente vase. The base color is a rich blood red color with a carved pattern of hummingbirds among leaves and flowers. It is signed by the artist (Margarita Martinez) on the base (photo 4).
Approx. measurements: 8.5 inches tall; the vase opening is approx. 2.5 inches in diameter. At the widest point, it is roughly 6.5 inches in diameter.
The vase is in very good vintage condition. There are no major chips, cracks, or repairs. There is light cosmetic wear consistent with age and use. There are light superficial scuffs (e.g. photos 6-10) and a few small scratches near the base and on the bottom. The rim of the vase opening has some light scratching (photo 4). I believe there is a small chip visible in photo 9. Please inspect all of the photos carefully, they are part of the description. Because of the intricate detail in the carving, it is sometimes hard to distinguish the smaller scratches.
