Vitaliano Posella is a pipemaker in San Vito sullo Ionio (Provincia di Catanzaro, Regione Calabria). He came to the handicraft art of pipemaking after having acquired a lot of experience in the briar industry. His pipes are exclusively produced with Calabrian briar. Here’s a deeply carved billiard with a fairly large bowl and short shank. About 5 1/2” long, bowl is 2” tall, 1 1/2” wide. ID 13/16”, depth 1 5/8”. Marked beneath shank POSELLA R/ FATTA A MANO (handmade). A white Posella logo stamped atop bit. No other marks detected.
Acrylic bit is well-seated push fit, no filter, clean and polished, showing no bite wear. Stummel is midnight colored, deeply carved except for inside edge of clean rim, clean bowl as well. Beautiful Italian pipe craft!
