Vintage Nicaragua Carved/Etched Folk Art Pottery Clay Vase Tropical Songbird

Description

Offered for purchase is a lovely piece of Nicaraguan pottery. It features a hand etched pattern of tropical songbirds. While it does not appear to be signed, the previous owner purchased it while visiting Central America.
This piece is in good vintage condition. There are a few light surface scratches consistent with age (photo 7); however there are is no major damage (e.g. cracks, repairs, chips).
It measures approx. 5 inches tall.
The clay is thrown on a kick wheel to form the shape, then painted using mineral oxides. In the next step, the pieces are carved, sgraffito style, before being fired in a kiln.
