Advertising Leather Horse Head Bookends
A rare set of vintage
Brown
tooled leather bound
Western Americana horse head
bookends. Tobacco

of a horse head
on each with
some
decorative Western
symbols at
the top

distressed Brown
leather, felt
bottoms.
Circa 1930's.
A rare commemorative collectible.
The front of one of them is gilded in Gold
with the
name
Carl Doriot. The only thing I
could find about Carl was that he was born
in 1890, lived in Buffalo New York in 1925,
then Ohio in 1930 (based on censuses), passed
in 1961. His
profession was an
accountant.
Could he have
been an accountant for the
FORD GUM &
MACHINE CO., INC.
LOCKPORT, NEW YORK?
He did something for the company to merit
these unique leather horse head bookends.
The bottom of the same bookend reads:
FORD GUM & MACHINE CO., INC.
LOCKPORT, NEW YORK
The Ford Gum Company began in 1913
by Ford Mason when he leased a gumball
vending machine route. He then when on
to design and patent his own machine in 1917.
He moved it all to
Lockport, New York in 1934
where he manufactured both gumballs and
machines.
