*UNSMOKED*NOS* ORLIK GOLDEN CONTRAST GC116S (pre-Cadogan/pre-1980) English Pipe
A very beautiful bent ORLIK with medium-large size bowl (similar in size to between Dunhill's Group 3 and Group 4).
The series is from the pre-Cadogan period as can be concluded from the marks on the shank: The name 'ORLIK' is in a straight line and in capital block letters. The 'MADE IN ENGLAND' is also in straight line, capital letters. The mouthpiece has the Orlik logo (a circular O as a brass inlay).
It is not mentioned in Pipedia as a pre-Cadogan period model. As however can be seen on the page mentioned as an offsite link at the bottom of the relevant article (Dating Orlik Pipes by Michael Lankton), the GOLDEN CONTRAST series (coded 'GS') is a series of the pre-Cadogan period (1970s). It is distinguished by a "... honey colored contrast strain, like a lighter Comoy's Tradition" and is a very good series.
A very faint spot (remnant of oxidation) on the stem on this unsmoked, New Old Stock very beautiful pipe.

We have selected not to list uncleaned "as is" pipes, for the reason that important defaults may be hiding behind dirt, oxidation or cake. For this reason we prefer the long and tedious work of cleaning them before they are offered for sale. Oxidation is removed from the stems and then they are sanitized using pure alcohol. The stummels are carefully cleaned and then sanitized. Most of the cake is removed from bowl interior of used pipes, leaving a thin layer of only about 0.5-1.0 mm cake so that the pipes do not need to be cured from start.
